TNT brings Canadian lobster to European tables

23 December 2011 –   A TNT Express Boeing 747 freighter transported 75 tons of Atlantic Canadian lobster from Halifax to Brussels on Wednesday 21 December. The holiday treat was then distributed throughout the Netherlands, Germany and France, just in time for last-minute Christmas shopping. TNT Express operates a scheduled service at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport every Saturday. Wednesday’s extra flight was especially arranged to pick up fresh lobster trucked in from Nova Scotia. Lobster from Atlantic Canada accounts for 55 per cent of the worldwide market, according to a report prepared last year for the Lobster Council of Canada. Canadian exporters hope that Europe’s appetite for lobster, a traditional holiday treat, will withstand economic worries.
