Express company opens new hub and launches domestic services

The investment in Turkey is a further example of the company's strategy to expand its domestic business in the countries where it already provides a strong international offering for customers. TNT is now the only express delivery company in the country to offer domestic and international services from a single source.

TNT is now offering a full range of domestic services in Turkey including sameday, before 0900 and before noon deliveries. Users of these new time-sensitive services benefit from the full TNT range of electronic shipping tools which includes price checking and pick-up requests together with tracking of consignments via mobile phone through WAP and SMS technology.

The new fully automated international sortation hub in Istanbul lies at the heart of a network of 40 depots and will service the whole of Turkey. Daily linehaul connections link Turkey to the TNT European air hub in Liége and to ten other major European road hubs which are the pivotal points of the biggest express delivery infrastructure in Europe.

Alan Jones, Group Managing Director TNT Express said, "In the current year to date profits earned by the global TNT Express business have almost quadrupled compared to the same period in 1999 and this success has enabled us to make a significant investment in Turkey which is a key market for our organisation. We are now the number one business to business express delivery company in Turkey and the expansion in Istanbul contributes further to our vision of providing the fastest and most reliable services for customers."
