TNT Express ICS Plants Trees in Recognition of Employees Environmental Efforts

Dec 13, 2005

TNT Express Information and Communications Services (ICS) today announced that it has funded the planting of 65 trees at Bignall's Wood in The National Forest in Leicestershire, to recognise the environmental efforts of its lift-sharing initiative.

The company's CSR programme - which is responsible for the initiative - also saved employees from the ICS division travelling over 2000 miles in just two days, when staff supported two national initiatives designed to reduce car use.

"The average car commuter in the UK drives 19 miles a day. Cutting that by half through car sharing would save 648kg of carbon dioxide over one year, the same amount as would be absorbed by 216 trees. Planting these new trees helps TNT give something back to the environment", said Heide Goody, lift-share team member.

TNT is at the forefront of global companies which have recognised the need for social responsibility. The company's ICS division in particular is committed to delivering environmental programmes which reduce energy, power and utility consumption, halve paper usage, maximise recycling and ensure that all waste is disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. The programmes are run by volunteer employees and supported by managers, who are able to identify and implement the necessary changes for improvement.

Dennis Beard, Director of Service Delivery, TNT Express ICS, said: "The commitment and enthusiasm shown by employees and managers to preserve the environment and support our local community is tremendous. We are really proud of the achievements of our volunteer teams and the work they do."

Angela Ashmore, Business Benefits Co-ordinator for the National Forest Company, said: "We were delighted to be able to help TNT Express ICS fulfil its environmental objectives through our Business Benefits scheme. We would be pleased to hear from other companies who would like to get involved in the Forest."
