British Safety Council

The British Safety Council (BSC) is Europe's leading independent safety organisation and recognised the world over as one of the most eminent bodies in the field of health and safety assessment.

In 2002 TNT became the first express delivery company to receive companywide 5 Star Accreditation from the British Safety Council for its health and safety management system. In the same year TNT was awarded four Swords of Honour from the British Safety Council (BSC) - the world's most prestigious health and safety accolade.

In 2003, the company achieved an even higher grading in retaining the BSC 5 Star Accreditation for the second year running and went one better by gaining five BSC Swords of Honour - a remarkable achievement given that only 40 Swords are awarded worldwide each year.

In 2004 TNT once again retained its BSC 5 Star Accreditation with a record-breaking performance. All of the depots assessed recorded a rating higher than the best rating achieved in 2003 - a tremendous performance and one that fitted with the TNT maxim of always 'beating our previous best'. In keeping with that maxim, TNT were awarded a magnificent seven Swords of Honour in 2004 - more than any other organisation in the world.

TNT are being ranked amongst the globe's most health and safety conscious organisations following its success in gaining the OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series).

Assessors from the British Safety Council (BSC) awarded TNT Express Services' the coveted international safety certification following an intensive month-long examination of the company's health and safety practices. Beginning at its head office in Atherstone, Warwickshire, safety experts went on to inspect TNT's depots in Alton, Barking, Birmingham, Carlisle, Dublin, Enfield, Llantrisant Manchester International, and Southampton as well as its Lount Sortation & Contact Centre in Leicestershire.

David Ballard, Director General of the BSC, presenting the OHSAS 18001 certification congratulated TNT. He said: "Health and safety is not a one-off it's something you have to do 24 hours-a-day, and I'm delighted to say TNT Express Services are among the finest exponents of all that is good about health and safety."
