UK Quality Award for Business Excellence - TNT Awards

The British Quality Foundation was formed in 1992 and launched the UK Quality Award in 1994 to help improve the results and effectiveness of all organisations in the United Kingdom.

In 1993 we started to use the business excellence model which is promoted by the British Quality Foundation and its' sister organisation the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM):

TNT UK Limited was selected as the winner of the 1994 UK Quality Award and this was presented to us by The Prime Minister The Rt Hon John Major MP who said in November of that year "TNT Express is a success story of the very first order......and provides a clear example for other companies to emulate."

"Our must get through attitude and commitment to quality is cascaded throughout the entire organisation to generate tremendous enthusiasm for achieving outstanding customer satisfaction. Annual self assessments using the business excellence model help us to develop the company ethos of total quality management and customer service" said Alan Jones OBE Chief Executive of TNT UK Limited.

Alan Jones was appointed to the Board of the British Quality Foundation in 1996 and Tony Curley our Director of Quality has been a member of the Executive Committee of the British Quality Foundation since 1995.

The Patron of the British Quality Foundation is HRH The Princess Royal and winners of the UK Quality Award are widely regarded as exemplars of business excellence.

TNT UK Limited is the only winner of the UK Quality Award to also win the European Quality Award and this unique achievement places our company at the forefront of the business excellence movement.

In October 1999 Alan Jones was appointed as a member of the EFQM Governing Committee. Alan is now in the unique position of holding places on the governing boards of regional (Midlands Excellence), national (British Quality Foundation) and European (European Foundation for Quality Management) Quality Award organising bodies.
