International Freighting Weekly (IFW) Awards

International Freighting Weekly (IFW) is the UK's premiere publication for the international transportation industry and each year they recognise the industry's top performers with their annual awards.

Entrants submit their proposals for judging by experts from within the transportation industry and the magazine's editorial staff, who select the leading organisation in each category.

In 2003 and 2004, TNT was acclaimed as International Express Carrier of the Year in the IFW Awards.

2004 also saw the company scoop IFW's coveted Business Improvement Award.

In 2005, TNT won the IFW Business Improvement Award for the second year running, earning praise from the judges for "delivering significant savings at the same time as generating impressive growth rates in both sales and profits."

In 2006, TNT won the IFW People Development Award, earning praise from the judges who singled out "our focus on the training needs of loading bay operatives, section leaders and drivers, and the fact that this is crucially supported by external accreditation from Investors in People and the Institute of Leadership and Management."

In 2007, TNT won the Business Improvement Award. The judging panel said improvements in financial performance, innovation in cost savings, how it differentiates itself from rivals with first-class levels of customer service, its commitment to the 'green' agenda and how it develops new market opportunities around the globe were all key to TNT winning the category.

National Training Awards are the UK's Number One accolade for businesses and organisations that have achieved lasting excellence and success through workplace learning. Only those organisations that can be considered as role models for training excellence are eligible to win National and Regional Training Awards, which are presented by the UK Department for Education and Skills.

Investor in People

TNT Express Services prides itself on people development. In November 1994 it became the first major transport and logistics service provider to be recognised as an Investor In People (IiP) as was named an 'exemplar' of the IiP approach in 2001. In 2003 the company celebrated its fourth consecutive IiP accreditation.

IiP's Lead Assessor Richard Lacey commented: "TNT's 'homegrown timber' approach of promoting staff from within is impressive evidence that people have learned effectively. We observed strong leadership skills at the topmost management levels and strong determination to improve the organisation's performance through the development of its people. We found that employees at all levels proactively help others by sharing their knowledge and skills - a true learning culture."

In the summer of 2004 the then Secretary of State for Education & Skills, Charles Clarke, announced TNT as one of only 16 organisations in the UK to be awarded the title of Investor in People Champion. As one of the Champions, TNT will work with IiP to share its expertise with other employers to promote best practice in all areas of people development.

In December 2007, TNT was re-accredited with its Investor in People Champion status.
