Leicester Green Champions Deliver Award Honour

22-Feb-2008

The super-green employees at Leicester TNT have proved that they can deliver the goods when the express delivery giant enhanced its 'green' credentials by gaining an acclaimed environmental standard at the first attempt.

The ISO14001 accreditation is an official acknowledgement that TNT, is making significant strides towards reducing its carbon footprint and CO2 emissions.

The Leicester depot, at Bursom Business Park in Leycroft Road, was put through a tough critical examination by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LQRA), with assessors conducting checks on the company's environmental management activities. These included waste reduction and recycling, fuel efficiency, environmental training, pollution control and energy reduction.

Simon Hopkins, Depot General Manager, said: "We are the only express and logistics operator to achieve this certification on a company-wide basis, and the first to hold both ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 (Health & Safety) standards at the same time.

"The transport industry generates 20% of the world's carbon dioxide emissions, and as express industry leaders, TNT contributes to that output. We want to pave the way in reducing our carbon footprint and lead by example. This is a tremendous achievement but it's not just about winning awards - it's about doing the right thing."

Denis Ives, UK Business Centre Manager, at assessors LRQA, said: "TNT is the only parcel and mail distribution company to achieve this certification. Achieving ISO14001 is recognition of the hard work, preparation and teamwork that Leicester TNT have put in - not only gain the accreditation but to ensure customers still receive the quality of service they pay for."

Last year, TNT announced its own global programme to reduce its impact on the environment entitled, Planet me . The ISO 14001accreditation is just one example of how TNT is demonstrating its commitment to helping preserve the surroundings in which it operates.
