Milton TNT a Racing Certainty for Cancer Ward Cash

25-Apr-2008

A 70-strong troupe of "punters" from TNT's Milton depot put their shirts on generating as much cash as possible from a charity race night - and ended up raising a barn-storming £2,000 for the Breast Cancer Care Ward at the Churchill Hospital in Headington.

Employees at the express delivery giant's Milton depot at Milton Park, near Didcot, decided to host the race night in aid of the ward after Lesley Jackson, an Administration Clerk at the depot, received treatment when diagnosed with breast cancer early last year.

After nine months of successful treatment, mum-of-two Lesley, 42, from Grove, and colleagues decided that the race night would be the perfect tonic to have some fun and raise funds for the Churchill at the same time.

Lesley said: "I'm delighted the team at Milton agreed to hold the race night for the Churchill because the treatment and care I've received has been second to none. The consultants, nurses and doctors have all been excellent and I just felt it was so fitting to donate this money."

Friend and colleague Jo Lovelock, Customer Service Agent at the depot, said: "Lesley has been fantastic throughout her treatment, having the absolute minimum time off work during the entire period.

"The race night was such a great laugh and an outstanding success. Dozens of colleagues and friends placed bet on eight pre-televised races and we received sponsorship of all the races from sub-contractors with every single horse backed in every race."

"Inevitably there were winners and losers but the winner at the end of the night was the breast cancer ward."

Lesley, Jo and the team presented a cheque for £2,030 to Sister Karo Geden who works at the Breast Cancer Care Ward at the Churchill.

In the past two years, TNT has raised £25,000 for the Breast Cancer Care Campaign's Wear It Pink day.
