Gateshead champion charity fund-raisers TNT rose from their slumbers on Friday?but took their pyjamas, dressing gowns and cuddly toys to work with them to raise cash for Breast Cancer Campaign's annual 'Wear it Pink' Day.

Last year employees at the TNT Gateshead contact centre at The Axis Building, Kingsway North, Team Valley, helped raise £11,000 in one day for the Breast Cancer Campaign - more than any other company in the UK.

This year, thousands of employees at the express delivery giant joined their colleagues in Gateshead and donned pink bras, pants, t-shirts, ties, wigs, trousers and other crazy outfits as well as hosting fund-raising events to support the initiative.

Michelle Havercroft, contact centre manager, said: "Last year was a phenomenal effort by everyone at Gateshead and that effort was recognised with our award for raising more on 'Wear it Pink' day than any other company.

Tickled Pink - Contact centre staff arrived at work in their pyjamas and dressing gowns

"We're famous for our orange corporate colours, but it was great to see everyone in their pink pyjamas and dressing gowns on Friday."

Since it started in 2003, Wear it Pink events have raised a staggering £6.6 million to help the Breast Cancer Campaign continue researching the cure for breast cancer.

Wear it Pink also won the UK fund-raising Campaign of the Year award in 2004 - one of the most prestigious fundraising awards of its kind in the UK.

Michelle said the company takes its corporate social responsibilities very seriously and recognise the importance of supporting worthy causes.

She added: "We have a strong focus on the children's charity, Wooden Spoon and have donated more than £2 million in recent years to help disabled and disadvantaged children throughout the UK. Internationally, we support the United Nations World Food Programme and have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to help feed and educate children in Africa."
