Quick-thinking Luton driver Paul Scott recently swung into action to save lives when he witnessed a serious traffic accident on his delivery route.

Hero Paul, 40, from Stopsley, who works at express delivery giant TNT based at Sundon Park, Luton, disregarded his own safety when he came across a serious road traffic accident on his way to his delivery area in north-west London.

Paul's rapid response saves livesWhen Paul saw the collision, he reacted instinctively and raced to the scene to help out the injured driver by dousing a fire that had started, injuring his own hand in the process. Paul then cared for the injured driver by wrapping her in a blanket and stemming the flow of blood from her wound before the emergency services arrived.

Police Sergeant John McNeil was first on the scene along with fire crews.  He said: "If it were not for the quick thinking of Mr Scott in using his vehicle's fire extinguisher to douse the blazing vehicle, there could have been fatalities."

Paul, who has worked for TNT for 11 years, said: "It was pure instinct that led me to act in the way I did, it all seemed like it was happening in slow motion. I could see the lady was very distressed and tried my best to keep her calm until the paramedics arrived. It was at this point that the paramedics patched up my hand with stitches and once the scene was cleared I just got on with my deliveries as normal.

"The letter of commendation from the emergency services meant a great deal to me and made me feel very proud to be recognised in this way. If I came across the situation again I would do exactly the same thing."
