6 December 2010: Enhanced Security Measures and Surcharge
                
Following recent high profile breaches of airline security where illegal explosive devices were found on cargo planes, TNT has already implemented measures to safeguard customers' parcels and packages and is taking additional action to minimise any future risk.

We have acted swiftly by introducing new security procedures and processes which incurs additional unforeseen costs. Unfortunately we have to apply a security surcharge to partially offset these extra costs.

The security surcharge will be applied to all international items transported by TNT from 13 December 2010. The surcharge will be applied as a charge per kg in the following manner:

  • 3p per kilo applied to all international Express, Economy Express as well as Special Service shipments
  • Minimum charge of 50p per consignment
  • Maximum charge of £10.00 - per consignment
  • Fixed charge of 50p per consignment to and from Northern Ireland


TNT Security Actions


In addition to full compliance with all new aviation, air cargo and other transportation regulatory requirements, TNT is taking the following actions:

  • Implementation of additional screening measures for air and road freight, as well as increased activities to identify and mitigate security risks relating to our customers' shipments 
  • Implementation of additional security procedures for new and unknown shippers as well as third party/transportation companies shipping on behalf of their own customers through TNT
  • Enhanced security awareness training programme for all operational staff involved in the transportation of goods, and strengthening of employee and partner security vetting and screening procedures
