TNT - UN WFP strengthen partnership to end world hunger

Since 2002, TNT has been an active partner of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the world's largest humanitarian aid agency. Each year, WFP provides food aid to an average of 90 million people, including 56 million children, in more than 80 countries. Unfortunately, that is not enough. The struggle to feed the hungry is immense. Today, one in almost seven people knows what it is like to go to bed hungry. 854 million people do not have enough to eat, which makes hunger and malnutrition the world’s biggest risk to health.

The first five years of TNT – UN WFP partnerships

The last five years have become a defining phase in TNT's history. The partnership has given TNT a genuine social soul. It has instilled immense pride in TNT's employees as well as strengthened the company's reputation.

The next  five years

At the beginning of 2008, TNT's CEO Peter Bakker pledged TNT's "never-ending" commitment to continue to support WFP's activities - a pledge that was gratefully received by WFP's new Executive Director Josette Sheeran who commented: "I am a true believer in the difference TNT continues to make in the fight against hunger."

TNT support for WFP

Since 2002, TNT has committed its knowledge, skills and resources to support WFP in its life saving effort. To date TNT has invested €38 million in the partnership in the form of hands-on support in emergencies, knowledge transfer projects to help WFP to be more efficient and effective, and advocacy and fundraising activities. On top of this, TNT employees have raised an additional €9 million for WFP’s School Feeding Projects.
