TNT will be better able to serve express delivery needs of customers with the opening of the opening of the new extension at our Thetford Depot.

The bigger and better depot, which includes 21 new loading bays, significantly increases TNT’s capacity to handle more and more parcels and consignments.

The extended depot, at Howlett way on the Fisons Way Industrial Estate, will be able to increase its volumes by about 3,000 to 8,000 deliveries a day, securing its future and that of the 160 employees who work at Thetford.

The construction work, by Norfolk-based RG Carter, started last March and included building a new mezzanine floor and a further 21 delivery doors. It comes after the depot’s vehicle maintenance unit underwent a £400,000 refurbishment.

Alistair Cochrane, Managing Director TNT Express Services UK & Ireland, said TNT was now fully equipped to meet the needs of its customers across the region.

“This secures both our future in Thetford and that of the employees for many years to come,” Mr Cochrane said. “It has been long overdue and gives us 21 extra doors and the capacity for growth in the future.

“Thetford is our fifth largest delivery depot across the UK and we have got to the point where we need to operate more vehicles and doors. There are 5,000 deliveries a day and this gives us the capacity to expand on this by another 3,000 in the future.”

Employees at the Thetford depot celebrated the opening of the extension by dressing up while, in a break from the norm, Loading Bay Operative John Roberts, aged 64, enjoyed cutting the ribbon to mark the occasion.

David Clarke, General Manager at Thetford, praised his dedicated staff for their Sure We Can attitude, saying: “This group of people is the most enthusiastic I have worked with in the 19 years I’ve been at TNT.

“What this means for them is a fantastic working environment and great facilities and I think it will mean they continue to have a spring in their step when they come to work.”
