Social Responsibility
We seek to lead the industry by:
- Instilling pride in our people
- Creating value for our shareholders
- Sharing responsibility for our world
To achieve our objective of industry leadership through operational excellence, financial clarity and a strong global brand are prerequisites, as are integrity and proper corporate governance. Yet we place additional emphasis on social responsibility.
Efforts on all these fronts improve our reputation with employees, stakeholders and the world, enhance employee pride throughout the company and create value for our shareholders.
We divide our management approach to social responsibility into three related levels that reinforce one another:
Integrate, Improve and Inspire.
Together, they constitute a triangle with activities that drive people to find new ways to make social responsibility work, and to make it pay
Integrate
TNT India undertakes a variety of initiatives to support our aspirations and values:
- In September 2007, TNT India had the distinction of obtaining 5 international standards including –
- - Investors in People
- ISO 9001:2000
- ISO 14001
- OHSAS 18001 and
- SA 8000 - Training employees on the social and environmental dimensions of their roles,
encouraging our suppliers to introduce programs that support our own objectives and targets because we take responsibility for the effects of our entire supply chain in line with the TNT Business Principles, - Benchmarking our policies, strategies and programs internally and externally to encourage continuous improvement in all areas of our activities,
- Developing programs that reduce the emissions of our operational activities.
- Road Safety Management System launched in May 2008.
Improve
- We engage actively in stakeholder dialogues. There are two main reasons for this. - First, stakeholder dialogues provide a setting for confirming and obtaining further information on stakeholders’ key issues and, where discrepancies or issues arise as to current policy, for entering into discussions on possible solutions.
- Second, taking into account the reputation of the transport sector, we believe that if our sector is able to enhance its reputation, we will enhance our own. - TNT India plays active lead role in Express Industry Council of India and Confederation of Indian Industries in the area of Road Safety.
- Our efforts to bring various players on a common platform are lauded by the industry for Road Safety.
- TNT India participates in World Economic Forum where the subject of Road Safety was raised for the first time in December 2007.
Engage
- TNT engages in commitments that extend beyond compliance.
- These commitments ensure a unique character to company operations and differentiation on aspects the company finds both relevant and important.
- We actively seek new ways to help the world opens the door to new and innovative initiatives. This has a positive impact on our employees, and drives their willingness to operate at the peak of their abilities.
- Two major initiatives in this area are TNT’s partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), or ‘Moving the World’, and TNT’s partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), or ‘Driving Clean’.
