Ｐrohibition of the Unity band (Plastic band)

It is reported malfunction by freight used unity band. 
TNT request customer to remove unity band at the time of collection

The malfunction example that is reported:
1) Cause damage of the freight when it strongly tie it up too much
2) With automatic assortment machines using at an airport, it causes the catch
3) A delay of the delivery may occur to transfer the freight by manual operation

P.O.Box Policy statements

1 TNT shall not provide delivery to a P.O. Box.

2 The Middle East Region as it is defined in the introduction shall be the only exception to policy statement 1, since street addresses often do not exist in this region.
   Countries are  Bahrain, Kuwait, Libya, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Yemen (North and South)

3 When delivering to a P.O. Box in the Middle East Region the receiving customer’s full landline telephone number (country prefix followed by an area code or city code and the subscriber number) shall be included for sorting purposes.

Product (including a feather packed with correspond to a product like a down jacket.) which a feather and the feather of the bird are used requested fumigation proof and certificate of origin.
When there is not each proof, local import becomes impossible.  Contents of shipment extinguished or returned to sender with fee.

China, Hangzhou - AUTOMOBILE FREE DAY 22nd September

The forthcoming Automobile-Free Day in Hangzhou city puts most of Hangzhou urban areas especially Central Business District zones as vehicles inaccessible, between 7:00am till 19:00 on 22 September 2011.
This will greatly limit TNT PUD capability and service level.

Bangladesh - Strike

Please be informed that the opposition political parties of Bangladesh have called for a Country wide Strike from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on 22nd September 2011.
There will be no vehicle movements on the roads. There are limited  Official activities, but Private Offices, Banks and  Shops etc. will remain closed during the strike.Pick ups and deliveries all over Bangladesh will be affected.
Friday and Saturdays are usual weekends. Please expect delays.

Greece - Customs Strike

The union of Greek Customs servants announced a strike for Monday the 12th and Tuesday the 13th of September 2011.
This action affects exports from Greece to R.O.W with both low and high value shipments and imports with high values, which will face a 48 hour delay.Customs are expected to be back on duty on Wednesday the 14th of September.

Yemen - Import

Please be informed effective today, there are two important changes in handling import consignments.

1) WEF Door to Door service is temporarily suspended. WEF consignments should be sent only as Door to Airport service (MAWB addressed directly to the customer)
2) ECONOMY EXPRESS service is restricted to per piece weight below 32 Kg's. Exceeding 32 Kg's per piece should be send as Door to Airport service (MAWB addressed directly to the customer)

China - Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China

Due to the Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic on October 1,
China customs will be closed from Ocｔober 1 to October 5 and it will restart from October 6.
Also, TNT China will be closed from October 1 to October 7.
We expect that consignments are getting held, and delays with pick up and deliveries and custom clearance just after the holidays.

Currently all North East locations, excluding Philadelphia International Airport are operating as normal. Philadelphia International Airport is closed today.

Turkey

Due to new customs regulations, Customs Clearance Capabilities and limits are changed as follows.

For Import Shipments；
Import shipments are being evaluated in 4 categories;

1. Documents,
2. Non Documents between value of 0-75 EUR and lower than 30 Kgs,
3. Non Documents between value of 75-1500 EUR and lower than 30 Kgs,
4. Non Documents with a value over 1,500 EUR and/or shipments declared as commercial shipments even if they have value under 1,500EUR / 30Kgs. 

TNT Turkey has the authority to make clearance for the categories 1, 2 and 3 if only they are non commercial shipments (samples, promotion materials, gifts,....etc)

We do not use our permission yet to give formal declaration for category 3.  For this reason the clearance can only be done by consignee or by their own broker.

Shipments evaluated under category 4 will be held in Customs for final clearance.  The clearance can only be done by consignee or by their own broker.  We provide and deliver clearance paperwork to the consignee or their broker for formal clearance. 

According to the new circular which was published by Customs Authorities on 19th of Apr 2011; some materials are subjected to formal clearance regardless of its category.  The mentioned restricted materials are foods & beverages, drugs, food contribution materials, all kind of cosmetics and mobile phones.  These kind of materials are out of our clearance authorization limits and will be held by customs for formal clearance.  Weight, value and reasons for sending are not considered by customs, all of them will be held in customs automatically. 

For export shipments；
There are four types of declaration for export shipments from Turkey;

1. Simplified export declaration (used only for global express shipments with values lower than 7,500EUR / 150 Kgs.)
2. Formal export declarations for non commercial (used for non commercial shipments over 7,500EUR / 150 Kgs. or moved by any commercial airways or Economy Express shipments via road.
3. Formal export declarations for commercial shipments (used for all service types). 
4. Temporary export declaration (will be used if the goods will return to Turkey)

Due to new customs regulations, we as TNT can do export clearance only for shipments under category 1.  For the rest of categories 2, 3 and 4 should be done formal clearance by an external broker other than TNT. 

If the goods are non commercial and samples or model .etc., it can be declared by TNT even it is over 7,500EUR / 150 Kgs.

New Zealand - Snow disruption
New Zealand is experiencing a severe storm that has generated weather conditions not seen for many years. As a result there is sever disruption to services

Christchurch
With heavy snowfalls overnight resulting in high levels of snow build up across the city of 15-30cm, the TNT Christchurch Depot will be closed today due to road conditions making driving dangerous.
The agent that services outer areas from Christchurch are also unavailable to provide services until conditions improve.
Christchurch Airport was closed this morning, disrupting domestic and international flights. Christchurch Gateway will not be operating tonight at this stage, and material from around the South Island will be sent to Auckland where possible.

South Island
A number of State Highways in the South Island are closed due to snow/ice, which is having an impact on road transportation between South Island towns/cities.
Road closures: Lindis Pass, Waikouaiti – Dunedin, Clinton – Mataura, Lewis Pass, Rahu Saddle, Kaikoura –  Waipara.

Wellington
Wellington export material will be sent to Auckland again tonight.

North Island
In the North Island, the following roads were closed causing detours variously via New Plymouth and Napier/Hastings.
Road closures: Wanganui - National Park, Tongariro - Rangipo, National Park - Turangi, Desert Road, Ohakune – Waiouru

The forecast is for continued extreme weather conditions for another 2-3 days.

Spain - Pope Benedict XVI visit to Madrid

Please be aware that due to the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Madrid, Spain, from the 18th to the 21st of August some main streets in Madrid will start to be closed as of tomorrow.
Important restrictions and diversions for traffic will be also put in place due to preparations in the city center, so there is expected to be some service impact on collections and deliveries in the area, continuing through next week.
