The off-shore data capture arm of express delivery giant TNT has further enhanced its 'green' credentials after gaining an acclaimed environmental standard at the first attempt.
Since 1988, the TNT facility on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean has been responsible for document scanning and back office processing solutions.
The ISO14001 accreditation - assessed by the highly-respected Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) - is an official acknowledgement that TNT, is making significant strides towards reducing its carbon footprint - CO2 emissions.
The TNT Mauritius HQ was assessed and checks were conducting on the company's environmental management activities. These included waste reduction and recycling, fuel efficiency, environmental training, pollution control and energy reduction.
TNT Mauritius General Manager Charles Cartier said: "This is a tremendous achievement for the business. The LRQA assessment teams were extremely impressed with the levels of preparation, attention to detail and the high standard of professionalism demonstrated by TNT".
In August 2007, TNT announced its own global programme to reduce its impact on the environment entitled, Planet me . The ISO 14001accreditation is just one example of how TNT is demonstrating its commitment to helping preserve the surroundings in which it operates.
Charles added: "We are the leading business-to-business express delivery company not only in commercial terms but also on environmental issues. I am delighted that we are the first in our sector to achieve ISO 14001accreditation."
