TNT Express History
1946Ken Thomas, 33, creates K. W. Transport in Australia with a single truck.
1949Thomas acquires transport company Campbell & Landers and its six trucks.
1950K. W. Transport offers direct delivery services between Sydney and Melbourne
1958K.W. Transport changes name to Thomas Nationwide Transport (TNT).
1962TNT‘s shares start trading on the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Brisbane stock exchange
1965TNT introduces Premium price services, including TNT Overnight and Kwikasair express parcels service
1967TNT merges with rival Alltrans.
1969TNT moves into North America with the acquisition of Walkup’s Merchant Express.
1973TNT enters into Europe and starts express freight services from London to Paris.
1979

·      TNT and The News Corporation Limited Group gain joint control over Ansett Transport Industries, Australia’s foremost listed airline.

·      TNT begins overnight jet services.
1980

·        TNT introduces TNT Overnite, a nationwide overnight parcels delivery service in the UK. ·    TNT shares start trading on the LSE.

1981TNT first express delivery operator in Europe to provide direct overnight air express deliveries.
1982TNT introduces TNT Sameday, the first nationwide same day delivery service in the UK.
1983TNT builds a transport hub in Atherstone, UK.
1987TNT Express creates a European air network to provide overnight delivery services between major European cities.
1993TNT Express establishes an express freight network in Asia to serve the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Korea.
1996 KPN, the Dutch postal and telecommunications group, acquires TNT Limited.
1998 

·         TNT Post Group (TPG) separates from KPN.

·         TPG’s shares start trading on the stock exchanges of Amsterdam, New York, London, and Frankfurt.

·         TNT opens its international air express sorting centre and hub in Liege, Belgium

·         Acquisition of 14 airbus A300 B4 freighter aircraft over four years.

·         TNT Express UK receives the EFQM award.

·    TNT introduces the world’s first global online price-checking facility

 

 

 

1999 

·         Opening of an automated European road express sorting centre in Duiven, NL.

·         TNT launches the first dedicated customer extranet in the express industry.
2000 

·         TNT Express first company to receive the “Investor in People” recognition globally.

·         TNT Express extends its same-day service to all of Europe and introduces SecurEdoc, an instant electronic delivery service. 

·         The company invests €2.3 million in technology, installing one of the industry’s most advanced processing platforms to cater for business growth and e-commerce initiatives.
2001 

TNT Express introduces several innovations:

·        iSolutions, a complete shipping management solution;

·         mSolutions, which offers customers consignment status information and consignment management services, using WAP, SMS and PDA devices;

·   an online Clinical Trials Network facility to deliver time critical medical supplies

 

2002 

·         TNT Express first transportation company to achieve the British Standard 7799:2 Certificate for its information security systems. 

·         TNT Express introduces a “Proof of Delivery” (POD) service, which proactively offers customers consignment status information by email.

·         TNT Express announces plans to open 12 additional jet stations in three years, expanding the number of airports used in Europe by the company from 55 to 67.

·       TPG enters a five-year partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme to help fight against world hunger.
2003

·      TNT Express introduces its first Boeing 737 in its European Air Network.

2004  

·         Marie-Christine Lombard appointed Group Managing Director, TNT Express. 

·         TNT Express announces a six-year €94 million investment in its Liege air hub.

·    TNT Express forms a dedicated Special Services team at its global head office to coordinate  this  activity globally. In 2004, Special Services accounted for about one fifth (€790 million) of the express unit’s revenue.
2005  

·         TNT Express announces revenue of €4.7bn for 2004 and an operating profit of €373m.

·         TNT Express announces a €14.3m investment to expand capacity and upgrade facilities at its Duiven road network hub..

·         TPG (the express division’s parent company) announces it will operate globally under the brand TNT for all its activities as of 2006.

·         TPG changes name to TNT N.V. in April 2005.

·         TNT Express starts flying its first Boeing 757, which makes a round trip flight Liege, Barcelona, Vitoria, Madrid.

·         Expansion of TNT’s Middle East Road Network

·        TNT Express launches Asia’s first integrated road network.
2006 

·         TNT Express announces revenue of €5.3bn for 2005 and an operating profit of €474m.

·         TNT acquires TG+ of Spain and Speedage of India.

·         TNT first express services integrator to use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) globally.

·         TNT acquires two Boeing 747-400ERF freighters to connect China to Europe.

·     TNT celebrates 60 years of operations.
2007  

·         TNT Express announces revenue of €6.01bn for 2006 and an operating profit of €580m

·          Acquisition of Mercúrio, Brazil’s largest road transport company

·         TNT starts flying its own Boeing 747 between China and Europe

·         Completion of the acquisition of China’s Hoau

·         Launch of new portfolio of morning delivery services

·        Expansion of the Asia Road Network into Vietnam and China

 

2008 

·         TNT Express announces revenue of €6.551bn for 2007 and an operating profit of €599m

·         TNT Express first integrator to announce it will apply for the new EU customs security
