TNT Express opens flagship Australian depot

22 February 2011 – TNT Express will tomorrow inaugurate its “flagship” Australian depot in Welshpool, a major industrial area of Perth. The new $40 million (€29.8m) depot is part of a two year $100 million investment by TNT to upgrade its hubs and depots across the country. New depots have already opened in Cairns, Canberra, Darwin and Townsville. TNT has also upgraded capacity in Sydney and Melbourne. The 20,000-square-metre Welshpool depot will process 3 million consignments annually. It houses TNT’s largest fully-automated parcel sorting system in the Asia Pacific region. TNT plans to expand Welshpool staff numbers to 350 within five years, from 270 currently. Perth, Western Australia, has become the country’s major gateway for freight transport to and from the Asia Pacific.
