Valentine’s Day boosts lingerie shipping

8 February 2012 – Lingerie remains a popular Valentine's Day gift in France. The past days have seen a 30 percent increase in lingerie shipments handled by TNT Express' French unit, as specialised boutiques replenish their stocks daily until 14th February. The company is delivering tens of thousands of lingerie packages to some 3,000 shops nationwide. The surge is expected to continue for some days after the celebration, driven by inventory restocking as well as returns and exchanges.
The French spend more on their underwear than their European counterparts, according to  IFM - Institut Français de la Mode data. A French woman spends, on average, close to € 100 a year on bras, panties, stockings and other intimate apparel, compared with € 79 in Europe.
