    TNT Express walks against hunger

    30 May 2012
    – TNT Express will hold its annual charity walk next weekend (1-3 June) to raise funds and awareness for the 925 million people suffering from hunger. Funds raised will go the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
The tenth edition of "Walk the World" will take place in more than 40 countries, from Europe to China and South Africa. What started as a TNT employee engagement project has grown to become a global event, bringing together up to tens of thousands of participants. The initiative has been successful not only in collecting funds but also in raising awareness of the severity of world hunger. The idea of a global walk against hunger was inspired by the millions of poor children around the world who walk several kilometres to school every day – often hungry and barefoot – determined to get an education and improve their future.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of TNT's partnership with WFP. Besides the main event, TNT Express will organise a series of local celebrations, including soccer tournaments in Italy and Germany.
, the world’s largest humanitarian agency, provides free school meals to tens of millions of these children. Nutritious food allows students to concentrate on their studies, encourages parents to send children – especially girls – to school, and helps children develop their full physical and mental potential.
