Surcharges

Understanding your invoice

Surcharges are additional charges that are mandatory and applicable to your TNT shipments.

When shipping consignments with TNT, the following surcharges apply:

Fuel surcharge

Due to continuing fuel price fluctuations, TNT applies an index-based fuel surcharge to all shipments. This approach provides our customers with a transparent charging mechanism for fuel costs.

Effective on 3 January 2022, the following revised surcharges will apply:

ServiceRevised Fee
Outer Area (OOA)$0.60 per kilo (or part thereof), subject to a minimum of $30.00 per consignment.

Enhanced security surcharge

TNT has implemented additional procedures, activities and investments to safeguard our customers' shipments whilst in our custody. To partially offset the additional costs an Enhanced Security Surcharge is applied to all shipments.

Effective January 7 2019, the Enhanced Security Surcharge (ESS) is incorporated into International freight charges on your tariffs.

Regulatory Charges

Border Control
Any duty and taxes, fees charged by border control agencies for bio-security inspections are not included in our rates.

Exports and imports
All exports shipments with a value of over $1000 will incur an additional export entry charge as levied by Customs under the ‘Customs and Excise Act 1996’. The export entry charge as at 9 May 2022 is $6.82 (incl. GST).

All import shipments requiring an import entry will incur an additional import entry charge, as levied by Customs under the 'Customs and Excise Act 1996'. The import entry charge as at 1 July 2021 is $28.72 (excl. GST).
This includes a biosecurity system entry levy, as levied under the 'Biosecurity (System Entry Levy) Order 2010'. The biosecurity system entry levy as at 1 July 2021 is $23.00 (excl. GST).

These charges and levies are subject to change without notice.

TNT reserves the right to review and vary TNT’s surcharges on shipments without notice. The amount and duration of any such surcharges will be determined at our sole discretion. By tendering your shipments to TNT, you agree to pay the surcharges, as determined by TNT.

Demand Surcharge (New Zealand)

During times of elevated shipping volumes, heightened demand for capacity, increased operating costs, and other strains on our network, TNT may apply a demand surcharge.
