SHIPPING TO CHINA?

While expanding your business's reach to China can offer huge opportunity, it can be a little more complicated to ship to than some other countries. A number of legal considerations mean that the market may not be open to you. Here are a few other things to consider before exporting.

China Compulsory Certification

You may have to obtain a China Compulsory Certification (CCC) mark before you can sell to the Chinese market, depending on what your product is. This is a compulsory quality and safety mark. Check the website for China’s National Certification and Accreditation (CNCA) for a list of all the products that need a CCC mark.

Restricted and prohibited items

The item you wish to export to China may have restrictions or be banned altogether so it is important to check before beginning the export process. Prohibited items include (but are by no means restricted to) animal skins, antiques, jewellery, precious metals and stones, military equipment. Further information on restricted and prohibited items an be found here.

Customs Registration and POA

The receiver of the goods must have a Customs Registration (CR) number and Power of Attorney (POA) for all goods that are not documents. It is important to make sure this is in place before exporting in order to reduce the risk of delays.

IMPORTANT CUSTOMS INFORMATION FOR CHINA

Chinese customs authorities have strict controls on what can be exported into the country and the information it must be accompanied with. As well as incorrect or missing paperwork causing delays, failure to present it within 3 days could mean goods will be surrendered to the Chinese authorities.

What information is required?

As well as the full contact details of the sender and receiver, you will also require shipping paperwork that includes waybills, labels and a China Inspection and Quarantine (CIQ) declaration. Paperwork must also include quantity of goods, value and full description of goods, clearly marked commodity codes, packing list and a typed invoice with no manual charges.
