Environment
We consider energy and carbon efficiency a priority. Our commitment to mitigating our environmental impact focuses on three areas:
- Operations. Improve CO2 efficiency and air quality
- Customers. Provide CO2 information to help them reduce emissions
- People. Encourage awareness and train employees and subcontractors in environmental management
Our environmental policies and management framework are based on the international ISO 14001 standard. All our operating units are required to achieve and maintain external certification to this standard as a minimum, as well as their own national and local regulatory standards.
TNT's environmental management system is used to plan, implement, monitor, manage and improve the environmental impact of our activities. We include environmental requirements in our capital expenditure and procurement review processes. The environmental impact of our fleet and infrastructure at each important juncture (planning, acquisition and operation) is managed. In addition, guidelines for subcontractors and suppliers are in place to ensure they meet our environmental requirements.
Environmental performance is among others measured in absolute CO2e emissions. In 2014 the total CO2e emissions of TNT's own and subcontractor operations was 2,915 ktonnes (2013: 2,845 ktonnes).
