TNT Express is set to improve its service to mining companies in remote areas of Western Australia where air transport is not available and rapid delivery is critical.
New specialist vans are set to enter the Mission Critical Services fleet to provide a fast, efficient solution specifically for the Western Australian resources sector.
The Volkswagen Crafter 50 vans – custom-fitted with a sleeper cab, GPS tracking and satellite phones – will be used to pick up and deliver urgent packages to mine sites across Australia's largest state.
These vans will be added to the fleet initially to complement existing Mission Critical vehicles and will be available around the clock, seven days a week.
The vans can accommodate cartons, pallets and crates up to 1300kg, enabling the transportation of heavy mechanical parts for repairing large mining vehicles.
There is also the provision to transport urgent medical supplies and equipment to any businesses that may require the service.
Mark Hamilton, director of sales and marketing for TNT Express, said the new vans had the potential to help companies run more efficiently.
"These new vans represent an optimal freight solution for the region," Mr Hamilton said.
"All companies in Western Australia, not just those in the mining sector, can benefit from this very specialist addition to our Mission Critical portfolio."
Two drivers will staff the vans at all times, and the GPS capability allows proactive monitoring to track every stage of the delivery or pick-up process.
