The TWU has advised TNT Express of their member’s intention to take industrial action including a 24 hour stoppage on Friday 28th of January 2011.

During negotiations with the Transport Workers Union TNT Express has offered its drivers and dock hands a 4% per annum wage increase with a CPI safety net.

The fair and reasonable offer is above current CPI and does not require productivity trade offs by employees.

In addition, the company has offered generous redundancy payments and enhanced leave arrangements for TWU delegates.

Approximately 2,500 TNT employee drivers and dockhands nationally will benefit from the offer.

Only 747 TWU members voted in favour of taking industrial action.

The Managing Director of TNT Australia, Mr Bob Black, said the company would also increase employer contribution superannuation payments in accordance with Australian Government legislation.

"Claims made by the TWU beyond the proposed wage increase could increase TNT's annual operating costs by approximately $10m", Mr Black said

"Such costs are not sustainable and would put pressure on TNT's viability within Australia" he said.

“TNT has put a fair and reasonable offer on the table and the TWU’s industrial action is in our view unjustified, we therefore hope that common sense will prevail and that our employees will not take part in any action that would be harmful to our business and customers” Mr Black said.
