Today TNT met with the Transport Workers Union (TWU) in an attempt to settle negotiations between the parties prior to tomorrow’s planned industrial action.
TNT regrets to report that the TWU rejected TNT’s enhanced offer which included compromises in relation to:
- leave arrangements for TWU delegates;
- the establishment of a National Safe Rates Committee;
- reductions in the Company’s conversion times for casual employees wishing to become permanent staff; and
- changes to Dispute Resolution Procedures.
These concessions were made in addition to the previous fair and reasonable offer of a 4% per annum wage increase with a CPI safety net.
TNT is disappointed with the outright rejection of our genuine attempts to bring
the current negotiations to a positive conclusion.
The Managing Director of TNT Australia, Mr Bob Black, has said "Claims made by the TWU beyond the proposed wage increase could increase TNT's annual operating costs by approximately $10m. Such costs are not sustainable and would put pressure on TNT's viability within Australia".
TNT’s number one priority throughout this period will be our Customers. We have put in place a robust set of contingency plans and we are endeavouring to maintain the highest possible level of service during this difficult period.
TNT remains committed to pursuing a fair and reasonable solution.
