Western Australia Service Update
: Friday, 13 January 201213 January 2012 - Tropical Cyclone Heidi & Pilbara Bushfires
Road closures resulting from former tropical cyclone Heidi and a large bushfire in the Pilbara region of Western Australia continue to interrupt TNT’s regional WA operations.
Former tropical cyclone Heidi continued to move south overnight and is sitting in the central Pilbara region where flood warnings remain in force. A severe weather warning has now been issued for the towns of Tom Price, Munjina, Newman and Three Rivers, preventing freight bound for Karratha and Pannawonica from leaving TNT’s Perth depot.
TNT was able to service Port Headland Priority freight overnight after the Inland Highway and Port Headland airport were reopened. Ongoing but minor delays can be expected to affect Road freight bound for Port Headland which was held in our Perth depot overnight. However, we anticipate a return to normal services in the next 24 hours.
Bush fires burning on the eastern side of the North West Coastal Highway have now been contained in the south. However, the blaze continues to burn uncontrolled in other areas leading to forced road closures.
TNT will continue to monitor the situation carefully and provide updates as necessary. As roads are reopened we will deploy recovery plans focussed on our Linehaul and Agents network to restore normal services and ensure delays are kept to a minimum. Once again, we apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers.
