Domestic Fuel Surcharge

FedEx (trading as TNT Express) applies a fuel surcharge to all domestic shipments. This approach provides our customers with a transparent charging mechanism that reflects changes in fuel-related costs. Effective 29 March 2026, due to significant fuel price fluctuations, we are amending our fuel surcharge model so that it is updated on a fortnightly basis.

Effective Domestic Fuel Surcharge Rate:

From 12 April 2026 to 25 April 2026: 44.6%
From 29 March 2026 to 11 April 2026: 38.1%

How does the fuel surcharge work?

Each fortnight, FedEx reviews changes in a range of fuel-related cost factors over the previous four (4) weeks, with one week time lag. This includes the cost of fuel supplied to FedEx, fuel-related costs from our transport suppliers, and jet fuel-related charges from our airline haul providers. The fuel surcharge is based on these changes and reflects the share of fuel-related costs in our overall operating expenses, which we review regularly. We reserve our right to review and vary the fuel surcharge methodology at any time.

How often will the FedEx domestic fuel surcharge change?

FedEx’s domestic fuel surcharge is updated fortnightly.

How will customers know the amount of next fortnight's surcharge?

FedEx will publish the next fortnight’s fuel surcharge on this page before the change is effective.

Why do I (as a customer) have to find out myself via the internet that the fuel surcharge has changed?

The fuel surcharge changes on a fortnightly basis. The revised fuel surcharge is communicated via the internet as it is a quick and readily accessible means of communicating the new surcharge to customers and employees of customers, to enable them to inform themselves about the shipping costs.
