Surcharges

Understanding your invoice

Surcharges are additional charges that are mandatory and applicable to your TNT shipments.

When shipping consignments with TNT, the following surcharges apply:

Fuel surcharge

Due to continuing fuel price fluctuations, TNT applies an index-based fuel surcharge to all shipments. This approach provides our customers with a transparent charging mechanism for fuel costs. Follow the links for information on our Domestic Fuel Surcharge and International Fuel Surcharge.

Enhanced International Security Surcharge

Following well-publicised incidents involving the transportation of packages containing illegal explosive devices, TNT has implemented additional procedures, activities and investments to safeguard our customers' shipments whilst in our custody. To partially offset the additional costs an Enhanced International Security Surcharge is applied to all international shipments.

Effective 7 January 2019, the enhanced International Security Surcharge (ESS) is incorporated into International freight charges on your tariffs.

TNT reserves the right to review TNT’s surcharges on shipments in accordance with TNT’s Terms and Conditions of Carriage and Other Services which may be viewed at www.tnt.com.au. By tendering your shipments to TNT, you agree to pay the surcharges, as determined by TNT.

TNT Domestic Security Surcharge

As communicated by the Australian Government, from 1 July 2020, new regulatory requirements for piece-level examination of domestic air cargo apply. Click here to access the latest information.

Meeting these new regulations requires FedEx Express and TNT to invest in new security equipment and examination methods.

Having regard to those changes, we have recalibrated our security surcharge. Effective 16 August 2020, 6.9% will be added to the current TNT Domestic Security Surcharge. Click here for more information.

Services impacted are:

  • TNT Domestic Priority (9:00 Express, 10:00 Express, 12:00 Express and Overnight Express)
  • Time Critical - Next Flight and Failsafe

Shipment Surcharges & Fees

TNT has a number of fees and surcharges relating to your TNT account, Domestic, International and Sameday Time Critical shipments. All fees and surcharges are quoted in Australian dollars (AUD) and are GST exclusive. TNT reserves the right to introduce new and/or vary its fees and surcharges from time to time. Please contact your local TNT office for more information on our fees and surcharges.

Card Surcharge*

This is a surcharge applied to credit and debit card payments (including direct debit payments made with credit and debit cards) that will be added to your total invoice amount at the time of payment.

* The surcharge percentage will vary between 0.5%-1.8%, depending on the type of card used and may change from time to time.

Demand Surcharge (Australia)

During times of elevated shipping volumes, heightened demand for capacity, increased operating costs, and other strains on our network, TNT may apply a demand surcharge.
